Michael Jackson's Memorial - traffic numbers

Since the event happened during a business day, a lot of people watched the event on the web. The consensus was that it wasn't as large as Obama's Inauguration, but traffic was significant - with excellent overall performance.

Akamai reported the event to be the second largest event on their network. The total traffic on the Akamai network surpassed a rate of more than 2 terabits per second. Akamai's Active Stream monitor showed more than 2 million live streams during the event (all technologies). More details in Akamai's press release

CNN also published some numbers, highlighting a peak traffic of 781.000 concurrent users and a total of 9.7 million live video streams.

Jason Kincaid posted some additional numbers on TechCrunch.
